Monstera, with its iconic split leaves, is a stylish and popular choice for indoor greenery.
Light: Place your Monstera in bright, indirect light. It can tolerate lower light conditions, but it thrives best with moderate to bright, filtered light. Avoid direct sunlight, especially during the hottest part of the day. East or west-facing windows are ideal.
Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water when the top inch of the soil feels slightly dry. In the growing season (spring and summer), water more frequently, and reduce watering in the winter when the plant is in a resting phase.
Potting Mix: Use a well-draining potting mix. A mix designed for indoor plants or a blend of potting soil, perlite, and orchid bark works well. Ensure the pot has drainage holes to prevent waterlogging.
Temperature and Humidity: Maintain a temperature range of 65-80°F (18-27°C). Monstera appreciates higher humidity levels, so regular misting or placing a tray of water nearby can create a more humid environment.
Fertilizing: Feed your Monstera with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half the recommended strength every 2-4 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Withhold fertilizer in the winter when growth slows.
Pruning: Prune your Monstera to control its size and shape. Trim back leggy growth and remove any yellowing or damaged leaves. Regular pruning encourages bushier growth.
Common Issues:
Pets: Monstera is considered mildly toxic to pets. Keep it out of reach of curious animals.
