Nephthytis (Arrowhead Plant), with its arrow-shaped leaves and graceful trailing vines, is a versatile and attractive houseplant. Follow these growing instructions to ensure your Arrowhead Plant thrives, adding beauty and elegance to your indoor space.
Light: Place your Nephthytis in bright, indirect light. It can tolerate lower light conditions but thrives best with moderate to bright, filtered light. Indoor locations with east or west-facing windows are ideal.
Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water when the top inch of the soil feels slightly dry. In the growing season (spring and summer), water more frequently, and reduce watering in the winter when the plant is in a resting phase.
Soil: Use a well-draining potting mix. A mix designed for indoor plants or a blend of potting soil and perlite works well. Ensure the pot has drainage holes to prevent waterlogging.
Temperature and Humidity: Maintain a temperature range of 60-75°F (15-24°C). Nephthytis adapts well to normal household humidity levels. Regular misting or placing a tray of water nearby can create a more humid environment.
Fertilizing: Feed your Arrowhead Plant with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half the recommended strength every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Withhold fertilizer in the winter when growth slows.
Pruning: Prune your Nephthytis to control its size and shape. Pinch back the growing tips to encourage bushiness. Remove any yellowing or leggy growth for a neat appearance.
Common Issues:
Pets: Nephthytis is considered toxic to pets if ingested. Keep it out of reach of curious animals.
