Hoya (Wax Plant), with its waxy and often fragrant blooms, is a captivating vining plant that adds a touch of elegance to your indoor oasis. Follow these growing instructions to ensure your Hoya thrives, producing cascades of beautiful flowers and lush greenery.
Light: Place your Hoya in bright, indirect light. It can tolerate lower light conditions, but it thrives best with moderate to bright, filtered light. Avoid direct sunlight for extended periods, as it may scorch the leaves.
Watering: Allow the top inch of the soil to dry out before watering. Hoya prefers to be slightly on the drier side, so water sparingly. In the growing season, water more frequently, and reduce watering in the winter when the plant is in a resting phase.
Soil: Use a well-draining potting mix. A mix designed for orchids or epiphytic plants works well. Hoya prefers to be slightly root-bound, so choose a pot that is just large enough to accommodate its roots.
Temperature and Humidity: Maintain a temperature range of 60-75°F (15-24°C). Hoya adapts well to normal household humidity levels. Regular misting or placing a tray of water nearby can create a more humid environment.
Fertilizing: Feed your Hoya with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half the recommended strength every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Withhold fertilizer in the winter when growth slows.
Pruning: Prune your Hoya to control its size and shape. Pinch back the tips to encourage branching. Remove any leggy or yellowing growth to maintain a full appearance.
Common Issues:
Pets: Hoya is considered non-toxic to pets. However, it's always a good idea to keep plants out of reach of curious animals.
