Last day for pre-Christmas deliveries is Dec 23rd! We will be open Dec 24th for in-store shopping and pick ups.
Potted amaryllis (Hippeastrum) plants are beautiful and relatively easy to care for, especially during the holiday season when they are in bloom.
Light: Place the pot in a bright spot with indirect sunlight.
Temperature: Keep the room temperature between 65–75°F (18–24°C). Avoid drafts, sudden temperature changes, and placing the plant near heating vents or cold windows.
Watering
Water sparingly until you see growth, then water thoroughly, allowing the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings. Do not let the bulb sit in standing water. Gradually reduce watering after the flowers fade, allowing the plant to dry out slightly as it enters dormancy.
Fertilizing
Feed the plant every 2–4 weeks with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength. This helps support healthy leaves and future blooms. Stop fertilizing during the dormancy period.
Pruning
• After the flowers fade, cut off the spent blooms but leave the stalk until it yellows and softens. This allows the bulb to store energy. Remove the stalk at the base once it dies.
Soil and Pot
• Use a well-draining potting mix, such as one designed for houseplants. Ensure the pot has drainage holes. A snug pot (about 1 inch larger than the bulb) works best for amaryllis.
